Liverpool Pushed Down the Table as United Climbs Top 4
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool Pushed Down the Table as United Climbs Top 4. Liverpool fell to a fourth away defeat in eight league games as Brentford earned a deserved 3-1 win on Monday night. This latest setback for Jurgen Klopp’s side leaves more question marks about their team this seasoN.
Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk both endured nightmare outings in a 3-1 defeat in London but midfield remains the Reds’ real weak spot…
Liverpool’s frailties were laid bare once more as they ushered in the New Year with a risible 3-1 defeat at Brentford.
Jurgen Klopp’s side could have moved fifth in the Premier League with a win, but they folded in West London, conceding twice in the first half and then again late on, as the Bees leapt to within two points of their vaunted opponents in the table.
Liverpool will be back at theIR best but it might take a few new signings to make that happen. this Liverpool team should never be underestimated.
Ibrahima Konate’s own goal gave Thomas Frank’s side a 20th-minute lead, and after Brentford had seen two goals chalked off for offside, Yoann Wissa doubled their advantage three minutes before half-time.
Jurgen Klopp: “It was a wild game and a game Brentford won so I’m not really sure you can control it all the time,” he tells Sky Sports. “Each corner was a massive threat. We knew before the game they’d be difficult to deal with and obviously they ‘stretch’ the rules in these moments. There’s full body contact and theres only one defensive foul off a set-piece tonight which was whistled against us, which is really funny.
Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool can’t ‘play Monopoly’ in January, but they certainly can’t afford to ignore the midfield issues which are undermining their bid for Champions League qualification.
Set-pieces and crosses may have been their undoing in the first half here, but their problems stemmed from the middle of the field, their inability to cover spaces and control games as a result.
Jordan Henderson had struggled badly against Leicester on Friday, but he could not be blamed here. Instead, it was Harvey Elliott toiling on the right of the midfield three, the youngster overrun and unable to offer enough with the ball to compensate for his passiveness without it.
Liverpool Pushed Down the Table as Man United Climbs Top 4
Klopp has sought to reinvent a 19-year-old Harvey as a midfielder, but the experiment is yet to bear fruit. Liverpool need established talent in there, and they need it fast. Whether that’s Matheus Nunes, the latest player linked with a move to Anfield, or someone else, something needs to happen in January. If it doesn’t, the Reds can kiss goodbye to the top four.
“Apart from that we conceded the first goal in a moment when we should already have been 2-0 up, with misses from Darwin and Kostas pretty much alone in front of the goal. Darwin doesn’t expect Mee to block there and Kostas should have been better with his shooting technique. But we get away with a goal from an offside position and then they score immediately and we are not there, so that’s a massive point for criticism.
It’s all over at the Gtech Community Stadium, where Brentford have run out extremely worthy winners against Liverpool. They were outstanding tonight against a Liverpool side who were little short of shambolic in the first half, but got their game faces on for the second.

Wout Weghorst Skills will Help Manchester United Formation Tactics
Manchester United have finally signed a striker (on loan) so in this post, SportsFila takes a look at how Wout Weghorst will fit into Erik Ten Hag’s system, taking a look at his tactical fit and how he could take Man Utd to another level…
Weghorst arrives at Old Trafford on the back of eight goals and four assists in 16 league outings for Turkish side Besiktas this season. He also scored twice for Holland in their FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-final encounter with Argentina.
Don’t judge him on his goals, his hold up play and ability to play people through is top class. We didn’t have players around him to get the most out of his skill set.
It’s great to see a genuine breakdown on his skills and attributes. Every supposed “pundit” just keeps on mentioning his height and he’ll be great for headers, even though he’s actually quite technical and agile off the ball for a man his size. Here’s hoping he’s the impetus for Man United to secure Top 4 this season.
He isn’t a target man, he’s a 6 ‘6 false 9 in my eyes as silly as it sounds. All his goals in Germany came from poacher efforts, again Burnley didn’t make the most of this. He will probably shock a few people….
Weghorst Skills will Help Manchester United Formation Tactics
(I hope he does, so we get a nice transfer at the end)
He seems to be elite at working hard to press from the front and intercept balls, which seems more relevant to a Ten Hag system than a team that prefers to sit off and invite pressure all the time.
At 6’6 if he plays with the aggressiveness like Haaland, I think he’ll have a great 6 months at Utd. The 1st 3 games he has to play to his skill set and play with a lot of confidence.
A couple of features you’ve missed is that Wout doesn’t miss games. He is ultra fit. He missed like 7 games in 5 years. Martial misses 7 games per 2 months. Furthermore, he might be tall, but he isn’t as good a header as, for example, Luuk de Jong. He is a relentless presser that will help MU play a higher line, interfere with opponents’ setup earlier and recover possession quicker.
He reminds me a lot of the Henrik Larsson deal from Fergie years ago. Fergie recognised a shortcomings in the strikers he had and needed another option even if it’s just “cover” Henrikk at that stage was by and far past his best but he offered good workrate and linkup focal points.
Martial is great with his linkup play but at times struggles to make meaningful runs into the box for the creative players to pick him out, Weghorst will do the opposite he will constantly be making those runs.
We have desperately lacked real men in the team for a few years, disciplined, passionate, tough minded battlers. All footballing attributes aside, this guy looks like he has the right mentality. Let’s get to work

Why Bruno Fernandes Deserves a Trophy with ten Hag United
Loving Bruno’s game right now. He might be scoring less than before, but he’s a much better team player and more complete than ever. Bruno Fernandes Deserves a Trophy with ten Hag United.
I’d be really sad if Man Utd don’t win a trophy with Bruno, he’s played so hard for the badge. He deserves at least something for his efforts.
This man pressed and fought all match, what an underrated beast!
Him and Garnacho were the game changers
Now we look more like a team . Pure Quality and confidence is something we lacked during the previous seasons. All the 11 players put in 100% effort. The improvement is obvious with the Ten Hag effect and this is the best time to be a manutd fan . GGMU
Best is one of the best signings to happen post Fergie and it’s not even a competition.
Well clear.
My Captain ❤️
“Bruno Fernandes derby goal against City was given because of Old Trafford bias” – Pep Guardiola claims.
City boss Pep Guardiola suggested that Bruno Fernandes‘ controversial goal in the 2-1 defeat against Manchester United would not have stood had it not been scored at Old Trafford.
The goal was initially ruled out because Marcus Rashford had strayed offside but was awarded because he had left the ball for Fernandes, who was onside, to shoot past Ederson.
City’s players argued that Rashford had interfered with play and Guardiola suggested afterwards the decision had been influenced by the home crowd.
“Rashford is offside, Bruno is not offside, the question is interference,” Guardiola said. “When one player from the 18-yard box shoots and one player is in front of the keeper but doesn’t touch the ball, it is disallowed all the time.
“The situation and the decision is the referee’s, the VAR, our defenders make a line [for Rashford], if we know it’s Fernandes we don’t make the line, we follow the action, and after the action the interference for [Ederson].
Why Bruno Fernandes Deserves a Trophy with ten Hag United
Bruno is an absolutely amazing player, one of the best signings we’ve had in the past decade and he will go down as a club legend. No wonder RMA wants him, my captain.
He makes a solid captain. His assessment of Rashy is spot on. Rashy has always fired shots on goal, but his accuracy was questionable. Now he’s a sharpshooter. Kudos to the entire team for their winning spirit and A-game.
Under Ole… and Mourinho we had many many great comebacks. That wasn’t ever a big problem. However we weren’t consistent and had trouble finding victory against mid table teams.
ETH has changed that and he put us in much more dynamic ways of playing.
Fernandes denied he aimed a dig at Cristiano Ronaldo
Ahead of the derby Fernandes spoke about the turnaround the squad had made since the embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Brentford in August.
And after the win over City he reinforced those comments, saying: “[We] used to be individuals, now we are a team. You can see a proper team that works for each other.”
Some felt that was a dig at Cristiano Ronaldo who left the club in November – but Fernandes was quick to dismiss the accusation.

Premier League Title Race Heated as Rampant Reds Beats Man City
Ten Hag needs to change his view on the title race
Ten Hag refused to indulge in the talk of a title challenge in the build up to the match, but he might not be able to ignore it any longer. United have made a great habit of beating the smaller teams in the Premier League, and now they have proven that they have what it takes to compete with the very best as well.
They are doing all the right things to become genuine contenders over the next couple of years, and while there is still lots of work to do, they are certainly a lot closer than Ten Hag would dare to admit.
Marcus Rashford kept up his stunning scoring streak to complete an incredible 2-1 comeback win for Manchester United over rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford, denting their neighbors’ Premier League title challenge and perhaps launching one of their own.
City looked set to complete back-to-back derby doubles over United when Jack Grealish stepped off the bench to head the visitors in front (60).
But after a VAR check cleared Rashford from being offside in the build-up to Bruno Fernandes’ equalizer (78) – to the fury of City’s players – the England man turned in Alejandro Garnacho’s cross four minutes later to score for a ninth time in a row on his home ground.
On derby day, passion and pride can play as much a part as anything, and that was perfectly summed up by the passionate displays of United’s unsung heroes who put everything on the line for the badge on the front of their shirts.
There should also be a special mention for Aaron Wan-Bissaka who continued his redemption arc with a brilliant overall performance to help his side back into the game. Though he wasn’t always at his best defensively, he played a key role with his attacking contribution and showed once again that he still has something to offer.

Fantastic result for Manchester United. They have finally shown the fighting spirit has been lacking for a very long time. Like the Manchester of old. They never gave up and results showed it. Rushford is red hot right now! Well-deserved victory.
Subbing in Garnacho was the turning point, Antony nowhere in the pitch at all and Rashford 🔥🔥I’m ecstatic.
Rashford and Fernandez have done something truly great here. It’s another one for the theater of dreams. This is one of the greatest results. City are generally considered the best team in the world and Utd have just beaten them in the PL in an extremely competitive match. The Real Marcus Rashford has arrived. This is what he’s made off. Glory glory Man Utd.
