According to the Mirror, Mason Greenwood wants to stay at Manchester United and has held “positive” talks with club chiefs ahead of a huge decision.

The England international, 21, hasn’t played for United since January 2022 following allegations against him by his partner Harriet and remains unavailable for selection as club chiefs conduct an internal investigation. He was arrested and due to stand trial before all charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February.

Greenwood has been undergoing one-on-one training sessions in a bid to be fit for the new Premier League season. United’s campaign starts at home to Wolves in just over two weeks’ time, with a decision on Greenwood’s future expected in the coming days.

Yet, according to The Sun, Greenwood is confident of being retained by United. It’s claimed there has been “positive” talks between the two parties.

Reports elsewhere on Friday evening claimed that the sportswear giant had approved a potential comeback for the 21-year-old, who still remains suspended by United.

Analysis: Hojlund has huge potential

Rasmus Hojlund has captured the imagination after an encouraging season in Serie A and Manchester United are betting on the 20-year-old talent to be the next superstar striker in European football. But how can they get the best from the young Dane?

Ten Hag has another No 9 in Anthony Martial but does not feel able to rely on him because the Frenchman is prone to injury. This has put Martial’s future in the balance, although Ten Hag remains impressed with what 27-year-old can offer when fit.

Ten Hag said United’s inability to take their chances in a 2-0 friendly loss to Real Madrid on Thursday “absolutely” emphasised their need for a new striker.

United had chances of their own but failed to score with any of their 14 attempts – an all too familiar tale given their problems taking opportunities last season.

Asked if the attacking display in Texas emphasised why they were looking to sign a new striker, Ten Hag said: “Absolutely.

“There were two things – the pressing can be better from the start and scoring goals.

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the signing of forward Rasmus Hojlund in a deal worth €75million plus €10million in performance-related add-ons.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that United have agreed preliminary personal terms with the forward and he is set to sign a five-year deal with the option of a further year.

I’m sure given time he’ll be a success at Man Utd but considering he has only played 1 season in topflight football and got outscored by Lookman in the same team is quite concerning, especially with the fee expected to be £55M+
