Is Bob Myers Ready for a Comeback in the NBA?
Two years after stepping away from the Golden State Warriors, former GM Bob Myers may be eyeing a return to the NBA. With the Atlanta Hawks and Phoenix Suns reportedly interested in bringing him back into the fold, it’s time to consider whether Myers is ready to jump back into the spotlight.
Atlanta and Phoenix Seek Leadership
Both the Hawks and Suns are on the hunt for a new front-office leader to steer their franchises in the right direction. In Atlanta, recent disappointing performances led to the departure of GM Landry Fields. Meanwhile, Phoenix finds itself in a precarious situation with James Jones, as the Suns missed the playoffs despite a hefty payroll burden.
Myers’ Legacy in Question
According to insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fisher, the name Bob Myers has resurfaced as a prime candidate for both teams. Myers has built a reputation as the architect of the Warriors’ dynasty, leading them to four championships over the last decade. However, he hung up his GM hat in 2023, taking on a consulting role at ESPN instead.
Will He Take the Plunge?
So, after two years in the sidelines, is a return on the table for Myers? The offers he’s looking at might not pique his interest. In Phoenix, the atmosphere is toxic, with financial woes tied to an unmovable Bradley Beal contract and limited draft picks in the pipeline. Atlanta presents a slightly better financial landscape but has shown significant internal instability. Plus, with Myers settled in Los Angeles with his family, a move to Georgia may not fit the bill.
