The month of December has wrapped up with some stellar defensive performances in the NBA. And it’s time to recognize the heavy hitters in the paint: Jaren Jackson Jr. and Evan Mobley have claimed the title of Defensive Players of the Month!
Defensive Dynamos of December
No runner-up trophies for Victor Wembanyama or Dyson Daniels this time around. Instead, voters have pivoted to two other remarkable defenders: Evan Mobley and Jaren Jackson Jr., who’ve proven their mettle on the court.

Jaren Jackson Jr.: The Shot-Blocking Machine
For Jaren Jackson Jr., this recognition highlights his incredible defensive versatility. With over 20 blocks and 20 steals throughout December, he’s the only player in the league to pull off this feat. The Grizzlies have solidified their spot with the fourth-best defensive rating in the league, and Jackson is undeniably at the heart of this wall of defense. It does raise eyebrows, though, as many expected to see Wembanyama gain some traction in the West after a monstrous month of shot-blocking.
Evan Mobley: The Cavs’ Defensive Backbone
On the Eastern front, Evan Mobley stands tall as the cornerstone of the Cavaliers’ defense, which has been the best in the East during December and ranks eighth overall this season. Mobley also came in second for the most contested shots, contributing mightily to Cleveland’s dominance. With a stunning record of 29 wins and just 4 losses, the Cavs are cruising in the Eastern Conference, and Mobley is a major reason why they remain a force to be reckoned with.
