Magic vs. Celtics: A Battle of Grit and Strategy
Struggling offensively, the Magic are bringing their A-game against the defending champs from Boston. Their best tools? The dynamic duo of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, strong defensive plays, and, most importantly, a physical presence that’s pushing the limits of basketball. Just ask Jaylen Brown.
The Playoff Tango Begins
As we hit the start of the second quarter, Jaylen Brown is charging towards the basket when he runs into the smaller Cole Anthony right near the rim. Realizing he’s outmatched physically, Anthony grabs Brown’s arm to try and stop him, sending JB crashing to the floor in a hard fall. Injured hand and all, Brown stays down, and the referees quickly call it a flagrant foul.

Physicality Reigns Supreme
This incident highlights the Magic’s gritty style throughout the series, successfully throwing the Celtics off their game. Remember Kristaps Porzingis’s dramatic WWE moment? Or Jayson Tatum’s wrist injury in Game 1? Both are prime examples of the hard-nosed basketball being played.
So is this tough approach just good playoff intensity or reckless play from the Magic? For Jaylen Brown, it’s a no-brainer.
“There could be a fight or something because it’s starting to feel like it’s not even basketball anymore, and the refs aren’t managing the situation,” Brown stated before adding, “It’s like this: if you want to throw down, we can do that. We’ll see who makes it to the second round.”
A Volatile Series Heating Up
While the series between Houston and Golden State is already straying into dangerous territory, the matchup between Orlando and Boston is heating up fast as well. In this playoff season, officials are allowing a lot of physical play, and teams like the Magic are taking full advantage of it. Foul after foul piles up, turning games into disjointed slugfests. Boston, known for their high-octane offense, suffered through one of their worst showings of the season in Game 3, racking up a mere 93 points with a dismal 33% from beyond the arc and 19 turnovers.
As reigning champions, Brown and the Celtics need to match that physicality while keeping their composure in the coming games. Because losing their cool would only play into the Magic’s hands…
