Yoane Wissa has not only made waves on the pitch as a dynamic striker for Brentford but also off it, facing a terrifying personal ordeal. In a harrowing incident that transpired on July 2, 2021, Wissa was attacked with acid by a woman who broke into his home in a shocking attempt to kidnap his newborn daughter.
Wissa’s Incredible Reaction Saves His Daughter
Fortunately, she did not lose her sight, and it was only thanks to her reaction that her daughter was not taken away.
The shocking encounter led to an ongoing trial at the Tribunal de Asuntos de la Morbihan in Vannes, France, where the attacker faces serious charges. Wissa sustained significant facial injuries and had to undergo surgery to prevent losing his sight, showcasing the dramatic impact this ordeal has had on his life.
Yoane Wissa still suffers from the aftermath of this attempted kidnapping and attack.
“Fortunately, he did not lose his sight, and it was only thanks to his reaction that they did not take his daughter,” Wissa’s lawyer explained. “He is still dealing with the repercussions of this attack but continues to focus on his performances on the pitch. As of now, he and his wife feel secure in England, away from these dangers.”
Trial Raises Eyebrows as Attacker’s Motives Questioned
The assailant, identified as Laetitia P., faces a staggering 30 years in prison for her actions, which included not just the attack on Wissa but also a subsequent attempt to harm another mother with flammable liquid. Reports suggest that during her actions, Laetitia claimed to hear “inner voices,” leaving many bewildered and concerned.
“I’m sorry for what I’ve done to you, I’m deeply sorry,” the defendant stated during the proceedings.
Wissa’s Premier League Breakout Performance
Despite the challenges he’s faced off the field, Wissa has excelled in the Premier League this season. Brentford signed him from Lorient for around €10 million in 2021, and his performance has made him one of the most impressive finds of the season.
With 12 goals and 2 assists in 23 games, Wissa has caught the attention of top clubs like Nottingham Forest, proving that he is not just a survivor but a player to watch in the league.
