Sports YouTuber Statman Dave says Manchester United’s squad has lacked a top tier defensive midfielder since Michael Carrick and it’s become a real noticeable issue. So today, we are going to go through 3 different players that the reds could sign to fix their defensive midfield problem. But first what does an Erik ten Hag defensive midfielder do? His two Ajax sides saw two different kinds of defensive midfielders but the general role is similar. Ten Hag first needs his defensive midfielder to be good on the ball and composed in possession but also a mobile defender who can stop or control negative transitions. He achieved this using Lassa Schøne and Frenkie De Jong in his 18/19 Champions League semi-finalists whilst his most recent Ajax sees Edson Alvarez given most of the defensive midfield responsibilities.
1. Declan Rice
Getting Rice would be nice, but it’s similar to the Maguire deal, he is over priced by 50%, which if it works out is great, then no problem, but if it turns out like Maguire, then we have a massively overpriced player that becomes an albatross around our neck.

First up, the dream signing is Declan Rice. The West Ham man is a complete defensive midfielder and he’s up there with the best in Europe for his position. When he first emerged, Rice was just a destroyer, sitting in front of the defence and breaking up play with his ability as a ball winner but as he’s played more minutes, Rice has become much more complete. In possession he’s extremely composed with a good passing range off both feet. The England International is a very intelligent defender that reads the game superbly – often leading to Rice making interceptions. Despite turning down another contract offer from West Ham his current deal might not expire for another 3 years and because of his talent, the Hammers have slapped a 150 million pound price tag on his head. Ludicrous money but probably the best defensive midfielder in the world that’s gettable for Manchester United, Declan Rice would be the dream transfer.
2. Kamara
I wonder why United are not looking to sign Boubacar Kamara. He is going to be a Free Agent this Summer, is a proper defensive midfielder and can comfortably play also as a Central Defender. Boubacar Kamara of Marseille should be considered. He is doing very well and will fit into Ten Hag’s style of Football in my opinion.

There are lots of defensive midfielders out there. Boubacar Kamara, Kalvin Phillips, even Frenkie De Jong could all fit in at Old Trafford. But the numbers all point towards Ibrahim Sangaré. An old Statman Dave favourite from his Toulouse days, Sangaré has been improving under Roger Schmidt at PSV Eindhoven and at 24, the Ivorian has developed well. A great destroyer but also a very composed ball player, Sangaré came close to a 25 million pound move to Newcastle in January. Expected to be available for a similar price in the summer, Sangaré would be a cheap way to bolster Manchester United’s midfield, allowing funds to be spent upgrading other areas of the squad.
3. Sangare
Sangare is shockingly good. United have to be looking at players that suit Ten Hag’s play style and the team/league and not trying to make blockbuster signings and fitting the team around them like Ed Woodward so often brokered. This is what top teams like Liverpool and City have done. They need to also be looking at a pathway for young players, we have superstars like Garnacho, Carreras-Fernandez and Mainoo that need to be phased in better than we have done in previous years. Players like van de Beek, Elanga and Sancho need to be harnessed better for their skillsets and not manouvered and chopped and changsd to fit around other players to reach their full potential.

I have been saying this for weeks now. If United were under any other manager especially Southgate, they would be fighting for relegation right now. The problem at United is not Ten Hag but the players.
People keep saying that Ten Hag’s style of football at United is not attractive and no identity but there is so much that a manager can do if the players themselves are not good enough or not putting enough effort. Ten Hag’s Ajax were playing attractive football and he managed to get them to the SF of the CL.
Without him, look at Ajax now. And the media keep pushing their agenda to get Ten Hag sack and replace him with a much worse manager like Southgate. If Ten Hag is managing England right now, with the players they have, we won’t see such a passive football like we saw yesterday vs Brazil. Ask Liverpool fans, would they replace Klopp with Southgate? I rest my case.

Liverpool only have themselves to blame for loss to Manchester United. Had to find a way to squeeze in the random Bruno slag off in between. Dude was dead on his feet at full time, and had to slot in to center back for the last 30 minutes.

They had a good 20, 25 minute stint where they kept the ball in the second half, but did nothing with it, we deservedly won this game.

For Liverpool fans: don’t say that we lost to Manchester United because Jota Trent Alisson and jones didn’t play. We have to stop doing that every time a team loses a big game it’s very stupid because had you won, you wouldn’t be saying that. Don’t forget that when y’all drew 0-0 to them at home Trent Alisson and Jones started. Keep in mind how well they’ve been playing despite having lots of injuries they almost beat Manchester City’s full strength squad last week.
Also, you lose to Manchester United, 2 fringe players for them decided the game for them, Liverpool didn’t play well and a loss is a loss you have to accept it otherwise you’re a sole loser and are unwilling to take it.
It’s interesting how nothing much is said about the mistakes made by Liverpool, but all criticism is piled on Bruno; how supposedly poor he was.

Every time he speaks after a dismal performance after the match I always sit there saying to myself “What on Earth are you talking about”.

Most fans want ETH out because of his poor tactics and substitutions. I also felt he should be braver to drop non-performing players irrespective of names, and even play academy players if he has to.
Now I’m ETH in because I realise from Rooney’s and Ole’s recent interviews that the mentality of these players are incredibly low and it’s no longer just speculation that the players can’t cope on this stage.
I can understand ETH saying positive things and coming off as “crazy” but if you have players who are weak minded and aren’t willing to fight, you can’t be tough cos they’ll cave and where does that leave you for the rest of the season?! Jason Sancho case in point. I rather come across as insane to the media but hope that I’m lifting the team enough to get a string of performances to save my job and give the fans at least something to cheer about until I can have a summer clear out.
Keane is a freaking legend but that approach with these weak players will kill them and ETH would lose the dressing room.
