8 Transfers Dramatically Hijacked By Other Clubs After PSG Signed Wijnaldum

Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG recently announced the signing of ex-Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum. The Parisians snatched Gini from Barcelona’s transfer radar at the last hour, and this sends a strong signal that the transfer market is unpredictable. Man Utd have finally landed their long-time targets Jadon Sancho, Ronaldo and Varane, but in theory, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland could also be hijacked by other clubs at anytime. Let’s look back on other 8 transfers that were dramatically hijacked by other clubs.

  • A transfer isn’t complete until you hear an official announcement or see the player wearing his new kit, but even then the deal can be hijacked.
  • Manchester United and Chelsea have both stolen players from under the noses of their bitter rivals, but they’ve also been on the receiving end.

Here are some memorable examples of players who were all set to join one club, only to then sign for somebody else.

Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined Man Utd in a Mouthwatering Deal after Leaving Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo to ManUtd

While Manchester City wanted to sign Ronaldo from Juventus, the Glazers dramatically hijacked CR7 in a matter of hours. Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday August 27 that Manchester City had pulled out of negotiations without agreeing to terms with Ronaldo or Juventus. This followed Manchester United renewed interest in re-signing their legend.

Did Ronaldo re-join Manchester United?
Yes, it’s done. Man United said in an official statement: “Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical. Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester.

David Beckham

The transfer of David Beckham from Manchester United to Real Madrid was not just a hijacking in of itself, it also led to Barcelona hijacking Manchester United’s move for Ronaldinho.

Becks’ relationship with Sir Alex had become strained and he seemed destined to leave the club in the summer of 2003.

Both Manchester United and Barcelona told the press that they had reached an agreement regarding the England international, but Real made a late attempt to make Beckham the latest addition to their galácticos.

It was a bitter pill for Barca to swallow, although they arguably got the better deal later on, landing Ronaldinho.

Beckham went on to spend four years at Real, which was surprisingly unsuccessful, yielding only one La Liga and one Spanish Cup title.

Rather less impressive than the six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and Champions League he won with Manchester United.

Malcom

Malcom was ready to join Roma in 2018 after the Italian side confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Bordeaux.

Malcom playing for Barca

Roma fans were waiting for his arrival at the airport, but they were left disappointed when the winger failed to turn up.

Barcelona had intervened in the eleventh hour and made the Ligue 1 side a bigger offer, prompting them to pull out of their deal with Roma.

Roma sporting director Monchi threatened legal action against Bordeaux, while Malcom’s agent said the U-turn was “revenge” after the Italian club used a different agent to sign one of his other clients, goalkeeper Daniel Fuzato.

Paul Gascoigne

In 1988, Gascoigne was regarded as the most exciting prospect in the country and Manchester United were keen on bringing him to Old Trafford.

“We spoke to him the night before I went on holiday,” Ferguson said. “He said, ‘Go and enjoy yourself, Mr Ferguson, I’ll be signing for Manchester United.’

“So I went on my holidays but Martin Edwards (then chairman) rang and said I’ve got some bad news – he signed for Tottenham.”

Spurs chairman Irving Scholar had managed to change Gascoigne’s mind by offering to buy a £120,000 house for his parents and, crucially, a sunbed for his sister.

This is often considered a sliding doors moment in Gazza’s life amid a school of thought that Fergie would have been able to straighten out his off-field problems. Gazza is less than convinced…

John Obi Mikel

Mikel was presented as a Manchester United player in a press conference back in 2005, only for Chelsea to claim that they already had an agreement with the player’s agent.

United asked the Premier League to launch an investigation into the matter and a year-long legal battle ensued between the English giants.

The Red Devils eventually agreed to terminate their agreement and the Blues got their man, though they had to pay their rivals £12million in compensation.

Roy Keane

Keane announced that he would leave Nottingham Forest after their relegation in 1993, agreeing personal terms with Blackburn Rovers.

Kenny Dalglish tried to get the paperwork through late on a Friday afternoon, but the Ewood Park office had closed for the weekend and they agreed to finalise the contract on the following Monday.

Hearing of this delay, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson called Keane and convinced him to renege on his gentleman’s agreement with Dalglish.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Willian

Willian

Tottenham thought that they had won the race to sign Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013 and the winger even completed his medical.

But Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich used his contacts in Russia to hijack the deal while Willian was still at Tottenham’s training ground.

“Then we’re going in the van, on the way, get to the training centre, Kia [Joorabchian], my agent, is already down there, waiting. I thought it was weird, he was already at the door,” Willian told Brazilian TV shown Resenha in 2018.

“Then I got out of the van, he said, ‘We have problems.’ I said, ‘Oh, what happened?’ Then he said, ‘Chelsea made an offer.’ I said, ‘So make do, I’ll get back in the van, you’ll make do and I’ll go to Chelsea, I will not sign with Tottenham.’

“I stayed there for eight hours in the training centre. Tottenham’s director said, ‘I’m going to report you to FIFA, this and that, fans here in England will boo you, this and that.’

“They made up a lot of things. I got stuck there for eight hours. Then I left and I went straight to meet the Chelsea people to sort the details and sign.”

Moussa Sissoko

Everton looked set to sign Sissoko after matching Newcastle United’s £30million valuation in 2016 and had a private jet ready to take him to Merseyside.

But Tottenham swooped in and lured the midfielder away from Goodison Park with a sensational last-minute bid on deadline day.

Sissoko reportedly switched his phone off to avoid calls from Ronald Koeman while completing his move to White Hart Lane.

Robinho

Chelsea started selling replica shirts with Robinho’s name on them before the deal was done, but they were left with egg on their faces.

Manchester City wanted to make a marquee signing after Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008 and managed to sign the attacker for £32.5million.

The move came out of nowhere; it was so shocking that even Robinho didn’t seem to know who he had signed for.

“On the last day of transfers, Chelsea made a good offer for me personally, and good for Real Madrid, and it was accepted,” Robinho said, before someone pointed out his mistake.

‘Chelsea? No, Manchester. Sorry.”

Gareth Southgate to Manchester United Doesnt’ Make Sense

Published

There is NO REASON for Gareth Southgate to be linked with the Manchester United job

Gareth Southgate is the only person in the Universe who can turn Manchester United into Middlesbrough within no time

The English media is trying all their best to push Southgate to united, but he is championship level manager at best

The England national team is waay better than this Manu squad, and he has had 0 success ( reaching semis ain’t success). So what exactly are people expecting if he becomes Manu boss

Absolutely no way! Why would Man U hire Southgate? That would be the worse decision in the history of the game.

ETH outwitted Klopp last weekend in one of the best and most dramatic FA cup clashes in years and I’m sorry but Southgate would not have won that game and ETH has had to deal with Ronaldo, Sancho, Greenwood and so on, he deserves more time

Soccer Football – Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on the pitch before the match REUTERS/Umit Bektas/ File photo

I have been saying this for weeks now. If United were under any other manager especially Southgate, they would be fighting for relegation right now. The problem at United is not Ten Hag but the players.

People keep saying that Ten Hag’s style of football at United is not attractive and no identity but there is so much that a manager can do if the players themselves are not good enough or not putting enough effort. Ten Hag’s Ajax were playing attractive football and he managed to get them to the SF of the CL.

Without him, look at Ajax now. And the media keep pushing their agenda to get Ten Hag sack and replace him with a much worse manager like Southgate. If Ten Hag is managing England right now, with the players they have, we won’t see such a passive football like we saw yesterday vs Brazil. Ask Liverpool fans, would they replace Klopp with Southgate? I rest my case.

Liverpool blame themselves for FA Cup loss to Man United

Liverpool only have themselves to blame for loss to Manchester United. Had to find a way to squeeze in the random Bruno slag off in between. Dude was dead on his feet at full time, and had to slot in to center back for the last 30 minutes.

SportsFila reflect on Manchester United’s 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup Quarterfinals and look ahead to the semifinals where Erik ten Hag’s side will take on Coventry.

How come everybody seems to have forgotten that 2 of LFC’s goals were pure luck?

More shots, same shots on goal, higher goal expectancy. What is this narrative that Liverpool should have put this game away, if anything we should’ve put this game away! They had a good 20, 25 minute stint where they kept the ball in the second half, but did nothing with it, we deservedly won this game.

For Liverpool fans: don’t say that we lost to Manchester United because Jota Trent Alisson and jones didn’t play. We have to stop doing that every time a team loses a big game it’s very stupid because had you won, you wouldn’t be saying that. Don’t forget that when y’all drew 0-0 to them at home Trent Alisson and Jones started. Keep in mind how well they’ve been playing despite having lots of injuries they almost beat Manchester City’s full strength squad last week.

Also, you lose to Manchester United, 2 fringe players for them decided the game for them, Liverpool didn’t play well and a loss is a loss you have to accept it otherwise you’re a sole loser and are unwilling to take it.

It’s interesting how nothing much is said about the mistakes made by Liverpool, but all criticism is piled on Bruno; how supposedly poor he was.

Ten Hag Says Man United Are on Track

Published

Ten Hag claims United is moving in the right direction 👀 WHAT DIRECTION IS THAT?!

Every time he speaks after a dismal performance after the match I always sit there saying to myself “What on Earth are you talking about”.

The media trying so hard to get ETH sacked…..when liverpool had bad injuries with VVD out, y’all didnt have the same energy

Most fans want ETH out because of his poor tactics and substitutions. I also felt he should be braver to drop non-performing players irrespective of names, and even play academy players if he has to.

Now I’m ETH in because I realise from Rooney’s and Ole’s recent interviews that the mentality of these players are incredibly low and it’s no longer just speculation that the players can’t cope on this stage.

I can understand ETH saying positive things and coming off as “crazy” but if you have players who are weak minded and aren’t willing to fight, you can’t be tough cos they’ll cave and where does that leave you for the rest of the season?! Jason Sancho case in point. I rather come across as insane to the media but hope that I’m lifting the team enough to get a string of performances to save my job and give the fans at least something to cheer about until I can have a summer clear out.

Keane is a freaking legend but that approach with these weak players will kill them and ETH would lose the dressing room.

This man keeps dropping off bombs on and off the field..A gift that keeps on giving..Most delulu man on this green earth
What a GIFT! Hand him a 15 years contract and 5 years add ons

The problem for Utd in recruiting an elite manager in the Summer is that Liverpool, Bayern and Barca will also be looking for new managers.

From the moment I heard “A new era begins. .” from ETH. I knew it was the joke of the century. He has the guts to say it while Klopp/Guardiola are competing against each other by 1 point in the Primer league he acted like he can compete with them ro
