Telegraph Sport can reveal that Manchester United discussed recalling Diallo from his loan at Sunderland in January, so impressive were the reports they had received. In the end, they signed Wout Weghorst on loan instead to fill the hole left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s sudden exit, believing it was better for him to continue playing every game at Sunderland than spending time on their bench in the Premier League.
But it shows how close an eye Les Parry, the club’s elite performance manager and technical director, Darren Fletcher, have been keeping on Diallo’s progress. Playing every week, Diallo has been the point of difference in so many games for Sunderland this season, with 12 goals as a wide forward and three assists.

According to Telegraph Sport, the Red Devils hierarchy held discussions over terminating Amad’s loan prematurely after the glistening reports they’d been receiving, but instead opted against the idea as they didn’t want the attacker to come back to the club and spend the second half of the campaign on the bench.
