After misfiring a last minute penalty against Aston Villa, Bruno Fernandes Says He Is Still Man Utd Number-1 Penalty Taker; Not Ronaldo. The Portuguese came under fierce criticism for rushing to take the penalty instead of humbly giving it to his countryman and Man Utd legend Ronaldo.
Here is Bruno’s message to United fans after the Villa defeat. Posting on twitter Bruno said:
“No excuses for my penalty miss today. I’m my biggest critic but as always I’ll use it to drive me forward. More than my disappointment though, the team’s loss today is the most important. I’ll be ready next time.”

Nobody is more frustrated and disappointed than me for missing the penalty and the consequent defeat.
I’ve always assumed my responsibilities and I’ve always embraced them under pressure in moments like this. Today, I failed. But I took a step forward and faced the challenge with the same ambition and responsibility as when, on the many other occasions, the ball ended up in the net.
Criticism and contrasting opinions are a big part of football. I’ve learned to live with it, even using them to drive me on, and I consider it all a very important part of my commitment to never stop trying to improve and to become the best player I can possibly be, for me and the team.
Today I once again took the responsibility given to me almost since I joined United and I will take it again without any fear or dread whenever called upon.
The most important thing for me is to win together and I’ll always do everything I can to help my teammates and the club to be the best we can be.
I’m a player who leaves everything on the pitch, with great desire and commitment. And that’s what I’ll continue to do.
Thank you for all your support after the final whistle! Hearing you chanting my name in the stadium was very emotional… I will come back stronger for me, because these are the standards I hold myself to, but most of all for my teammates and our fans who have always supported us.

Mistakes happen, we learn from them and move on. Bruno knows how much Man U fans love and appreciate him. Without Fernandes joining United, I don’t think they would even be in 4th right now or have played UCL football twice in a row. Just that.. next time, he has to place it in carefully, and don’t worry about blasting it 😉
But honestly speaking, Bruno would have gained more respect if he had handed that responsibility to Ronaldo. Bruno doesn’t have to think he can outshine Ronaldo because he remains the undisputed GOAT and can never be overshadowed. Learn and get blessings from him.
A penalty miss wasn’t the issue today. United were outplayed at home by a weaker side, the blame can only lie with the tactics. Nobody blames you Bruno, everyone can see that he gives everything for the club every second he is on the pitch….

He also has done the same with Garnacho last year and this year. Then he did the same with Pellistri against Bayern Munich who in my opinion did well enough to deserve another chance. I think it’s a way for him to see how they respond to the pressure and intensity. He’s not afraid to play the youngsters ONLY if he considers them good and fearless enough.

The man deserves all the praise in the world for being so resilient.
It’s interesting hearing ten hag speaking on rashford because he mentions a lot of qualities which he possesses, however they are all physical and technical, the one thing he didn’t speak positively about was his mentality and for me this is what has always separated Rashford from the very best.
In football and sport as a whole mentality is the one thing you need more than anything, it’s what separates the good from the great and I don’t know if rashford has that real hunger and desire in him to be great. The kind of desire where you’re willing to get hurt to score a goal.
