Jadon Sancho to Wear Legendary Number 7 Shirt At Man United
After United closed the deal on their splash signing of the 2021 summer, in Jadon Sancho, the new arrival has requested to don the lucky number 7. According to The Guardian, the ex-Dortmund attacker has asked to wear the number seven jersey for Man United next season.
Sancho looks to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, the number seven jersey is currently sported by Edinson Cavani, who has signed a new 12-month deal at Old Trafford, and the Red Devils have allegedly not yet made a call on the request.
Sancho will leave Dortmund having scored 50 goals and registered 64 assists in 137 appearances for the German outfit, including 16 goals and 20 assists in 38 outings last term.

The Manchester United No.7 shirt had endured quite a slump lately, despite its marvelously rich history. Legends among legends George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo thrived in the iconic shirt. However, Man United big flops like Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez and Memphis Depay all failed to shine in the popular jersey.
While that second group of players have found success elsewhere, they just couldn’t fully succeed in Old Trafford’s red. One guy who really has succeeded at United however is Edinson Cavani, who wore the shirt last season. He was probably United’s best signing of last summer as he truly delivered the goods.
Sancho hasn’t just garnered the moniker of being the second most expensive English footballer of all time but has also set his eyes on the legendary number seven jersey at United. Cavani recently penned a one-year extension that will keep him at United until next year.
The 34-year-old could be handed the number nine jersey that could potentially be vacated if Anthony Martial leaves the club this summer. Other numbers available include 12, 15 and 20. Cavani wore the number seven throughout his stint at Palermo and Napoli before switching to nine for the majority of his time at PSG.
Why Sancho may not wear the number 7 shirt this season
While Sancho is the club’s marquee signing this summer and possibly the face for the future, it may be prudent for United to hand him the number seven next summer.
After all, Cavani was the one who broke the number seven curse of late and stripping him off it may have a semblance of disrespect.
Much will be demaned from Jadon Sancho at United. Whether giving in to his demand and tasking him with the added burden of the number is something United will do remains to be seen.

He also has done the same with Garnacho last year and this year. Then he did the same with Pellistri against Bayern Munich who in my opinion did well enough to deserve another chance. I think it’s a way for him to see how they respond to the pressure and intensity. He’s not afraid to play the youngsters ONLY if he considers them good and fearless enough.

He brought in the right striker young full of potential and work ethic. Young players are starring in the squad WE ARE ON THE WAY.
Jadon Sancho Will REGRET His Behaviour At Man United
All the instability across the club that he’s gone through and still kept us in the Top 8. Now he’s finally seeing the other side of the drawn-out “club sale, no-sale”, multiple injuries, media controversies, spoiled players, and all the other nonsense, we see the team moving into sixth position. The man deserves all the praise in the world for being so resilient.
It’s interesting hearing ten hag speaking on rashford because he mentions a lot of qualities which he possesses, however they are all physical and technical, the one thing he didn’t speak positively about was his mentality and for me this is what has always separated Rashford from the very best.
In football and sport as a whole mentality is the one thing you need more than anything, it’s what separates the good from the great and I don’t know if rashford has that real hunger and desire in him to be great. The kind of desire where you’re willing to get hurt to score a goal.
