Phil Jones Signs New Man Utd Contract: How Ole Made a Big Mistake
Perhaps, Man United boss Ole Gunnar is still regretting over his mistake to extend Phil Jones contract till June 2023. Back in 2019, Manchester United offered Phil Jones a new contract, which would keep him at the club until June 2023, with the option to extend for a further year.
The rest became history as Jones became the famous forgotten man sitting at home and earning millions of pounds per year.

“I am delighted to have signed a new contract. Manchester United has been a big part of my life for eight years and I love everything about this club.
“I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead of us as we prepare for a very busy period in the season. I would like to thank Ole and the coaching staff for their continued support in my development.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said:
“Phil knows what it takes to be a Manchester United player. He has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League and is now one of the senior players within the team.
“He is coming up to his 27th birthday and entering into his prime years as a centre-half. We are delighted Phil has committed his future to the club.”

Phil Jones Contract Extension: How Ole Made a Big Mistake
United are still counting the cost of a misjudged decision to hand Jones a new contract in 2019.
It would have been sensible to let him walk away on a free – but United were reluctant to do this where possible, especially when ‘in theory’ Jones is not growing any younger. Injuries have sidelined the forgotten defender for more than a year.
Salary monitoring website Sportekz report Jones earns £70,000 per week and £4.5 million per year, while The Mirror claim it is £75,000 per week.
Based on the two-and-a-half years remaining on Jones’ deal, it would cost £11.25 million to pay him off.
While this may whittle down into just one or two teams actually making a move, that would be more than in the summer.
Jones deserves to get his career back on track and start showing why he was once rated as a top prospect. He can only do that if he stays fit.
Another fitness setback could be costly for Jones, and United. Any kind of fee received in January would be preferable to having him stay on the books.

The man deserves all the praise in the world for being so resilient.
It’s interesting hearing ten hag speaking on rashford because he mentions a lot of qualities which he possesses, however they are all physical and technical, the one thing he didn’t speak positively about was his mentality and for me this is what has always separated Rashford from the very best.
In football and sport as a whole mentality is the one thing you need more than anything, it’s what separates the good from the great and I don’t know if rashford has that real hunger and desire in him to be great. The kind of desire where you’re willing to get hurt to score a goal.
