As the Jacksonville Jaguars scramble for a new head coach following the firing of Doug Pederson, franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence has made his preferences crystal clear.
Lawrence is on the lookout for a young, offensive-minded coach who can revamp the team’s system and lay the groundwork for sustainable success.
Coach Search Heating Up
The Jaguars have already begun interviewing several candidates for the head coaching position. Among the top contenders is Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, who has generated significant buzz. Jacksonville has also met with two defensive specialists: Aaron Glenn, the Lions’ defensive coordinator, and former Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
Additionally, the Jaguars have expressed interest in other offensive coordinators, including Liam Coen from the Buccaneers, Kellen Moore with the Eagles, and Joe Brady of the Bills. Although formal interviews haven’t been scheduled yet, it’s expected that the Jaguars will prioritize hiring a coach with a sharp offensive mindset. That focus is crucial, as the team finished 25th out of 32 in average yards per game during the 2024 season.
Strength and Resilience are Key
Beyond innovative tactics, Lawrence underscored the importance of an inspiring coach who can instill “strength and resilience” within the team. “I have a few thoughts about this process, but I don’t want to overstep and go too far outside my role,” Lawrence commented. He plans to discuss his insights with Jaguars owner Shad Khan and general manager Trent Baalke.
As the search intensifies, all eyes are on the Jaguars’ organization to make a pivotal decision that aligns with Lawrence’s vision for a competitive and sustainable future.
