Barcelona star Lionel Messi is set for a record-equalling Clásico appearance when the Blaugrana take on arch rivals Real Madrid on Saturday.

Barcelona’s LaLiga visit to the Estadio Alfredo di Stéfano on Saturday will see club great Lionel Messi appear in his 45th career Clásico against arch rivals Real Madrid… and it could potentially be his last.

Messi, who attempted to leave Barça last summer before finally remaining at the Camp Nou, is out of contract with the Blaugrana at the end of June, and is yet to confirm whether he intends to renew his deal or call time on his 17-year stay in the Catalan giants’ first team.

Messi set for another Classico record on Saturday

Since his first appearance against Madrid, on 19 November 2005 – a Ronaldinho-inspired 3-0 Barça win that is chiefly remembered for the Bernabéu home fans’ applause for the Brazilian.

The Argentine magaician has racked up a few Clásico records, and is set to add another this weekend.

Having already scored more goals – 26 – and supplied more assists – 14 – than any other player in Clásico history, He will draw level with Sergio Ramos as the fixture’s highest ever appearance maker, with the Madrid captain unable to play because of a calf injury.

Messi’s 26 El Classico goals eight ahead of Di Stéfano, Cristiano Ronaldo

  • Messi’s Clásico goals haul far outstrips that of the game’s next-highest scorers, Madrid legends Alfredo di Stéfano and Cristiano Ronaldo, who both managed 18 in their time at the Bernabéu.
  • Meanwhile, Barça’s second-top Clásico marksman is César Rodríguez, who netted 14 times against Los Blancos.
  • The six-time Ballon d’Or winner also shares the record for the most Clásico hat-tricks: together with Jaime Lazcano, Santiago Bernabéu, Paulino Alcántara and Ferenc Puskas, he is one of just five men to have registered two trebles in the fixture.

Messi out to end recent Clásico barren run

Messi is currently on something of a drought in games against Madrid. Indeed, he hasn’t scored in his last six Clásicos – his joint-longest goalless streak in the fixture.

The 34-year-old’s most recent strike against Los Merengues came in a 2-2 LaLiga draw in May 2018.

That said, the forward’s recent form means you’ll get short odds on him avoiding a seventh straight Clásico without scoring. Since the turn of the year, he has bagged 19 goals in 20 games to help Barça close the gap on LaLiga leaders Atlético and book their place in the 2021 Copa del Rey final.

In his 44 Clásicos so far, Messi has registered 19 wins, 11 draws and 14 defeats.

Crunch Clásico as LaLiga title race hots up

Saturday’s Clásico stands to have a significant bearing on the LaLiga title race – not least after Atlético ceded further ground at the top of the table last weekend, losing to Sevilla while Barcelona and Real Madrid, who sit second and third, respectively, both won.

In the wake of Atleti’s loss at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, indeed, Barça can now take a provisional, one-point lead at the top of the table if they defeat Madrid. At the start of February, Ronaldo Koeman’s men were 11 points adrift of Atlético.

Meanwhile, a win for Madrid would see them move level on points with Atleti, ahead of Los Rojiblancos’ clash with Real Betis on Sunday evening.

Jude Bellingham the best player in the world right now?

Published

on

Right now yes because of the impact he has at both Real Madrid and the national team. What I like about him is that he knows there is always room to improve and I’m sure he’s gonna get even better. He’s only 20 years old. He’s learning from another two masters such as Modric and Kroos. If he continues like this the amount that Madrid had to pay for him will be consider a bargain.

No matter how many times it’s brought up, it still boggles that mind that Jude Bellingham is only 20. The latest chapter in the generational talent’s likely-to-be legendary career was dominating a 3-1 victory for England over Italy at Wembley Stadium. Bellingham was sublime throughout, with the result booking the Three Lions’ place at Euro 2024.

Why Jadon Sancho is refusing to apologise to ten Hag

If you actually watch the man (not a boy) and appreciate what he is doing it is great but it’s just the start. There’s always someone who stands out in a team. Jude exudes confidence and has a very level head. Without injuries he may end up being one of the most decorated English players ever. It’s just a shame that Real Madrid got him rather than Liverpool. Haha!

Sancho Pushes Man Utd to Sign Jude Bellingham in Summer

Yeah right now, hes the best player in the world. A 20 year old playing like a 30 year old vet. Creates chances, scores goals, team player, passes well, great awareness, ball skills are on point.. everything.

Toni Kroos mocks Eden Hazard after Jude Bellingham Deal

At the moment Mbappe is the best and if he moves to Real Madrid you will see him establish that no.1 position for, at least, the next few years. I also think Mbappe will take centre stage at Madrid which always helps at these sorts of clubs when it comes to the ballon d’or. Jude’s time will come but not just yet.

Arguments for Guirassy at Stuttgart and Sané at Bayern being the only players more in form than Bellingham at the moment. As for best in world, it is still hard to look past Mbappé.

Jude Bellingham Unveiled As New Real Madrid Player

That’s what English pundits and media like to do. Hype their players who are in form as if they are the next Messi or Ronaldo. No doubt Jude has immense talent, and potential to be an all-time great, but how many young players were called that. He probably is in the best form, but not even 1/3 of the season is over and he is the best player already? Come on. What has he won, Halaand won a treble, Mbappe won a World Cup and was in the last final.

His years at Chelsea were amazing. his low centre of gravity and skill enabled him to get the ball played to him with his back to a defender he’d flick it around the defender and leave him for dead ,a skill done constantly. CHELSEA FC LEGEND

Eden Hazard and Philippe Coutinho Are the Biggest La Liga Flops of the Season

Eden will surely be missed, It was pure pleasure delight to have been a fan All the best to him and family henceforth Love u Hazard.
Sad, his career essentially finished after the 2018-19 season, he was an incredible player at his best such a pity he didn’t have a long time at the top and such a pity he didn’t try to revive his career in the last couple of years.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid 2-0 Champions League Semifinal 2nd Leg 2021

I really enjoyed seeing his dazzling skills, especially when he was at Chelsea. I had looked forward to seeing him do the same at Real Madrid, but unfortunately the number and type of injuries that he suffered, really affected him from showing his potential in La Liga.
I’m very sad to see him

Lucky enough to see him play live. One of the most talented footballers to have ever played the game. I’ll never forget the game when Chelsea trashed Everton and the 1-2’s with Pedro for him to score the 4th goal of the match.

At his peak one of the very best about, and he’s right up there alongside Rooney and Fabregas as one of the best 16-17 year old players I’ve ever seen play the game at full professional level.
