The Leo Messi fracas tore Barca apart. It has triggered the resignation of the entire Catalan club’s executives. On October 28, 2020, Barca President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Barcelona Board of Directors Have Resigned with immediate effect.

Bartomeu’s tenure of office saw a lot of scandals rock Barcelona to its core. From unceasing run of champions league defeats to transfer sagas and financial mismanagement, president Bartomeu shared the blames.

Does that mean Bartomeu’s exit gives Messi pathway to stay at Barcelona? Well, that’s certainly not out of the question. Messi wanted to leave Camp Nou because of so many reasons; the former Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu was one of them.

Bartomeu’s decision comes after several months of criticism in the wake of Barcelona’s 8-2 Champions League elimination to Bayern Munich, as well as Lionel Messi’s shock request to leave the club shortly after.

More Reasons Why President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Barcelona Board of Directors Have Resigned

Although the club was able to keep hold of Messi, with the longtime Barca star staying to avoid having to take the club to court, Bartomeu’s position has been under scrutiny for months.

ESPN reports that Josep Maria Bartomeu has resigned as Barcelona president on Tuesday. He didn’t want to await and get embarrassed by the fans’ vote of no confidence in his future at the club.

The rest of the board of directors have stepped down alongside Bartomeu. An election will be scheduled within the next 90 days to appoint a new president.

“It’s a thought-out, serene, informed decision” to resign, Bartomeu said in a televised speech.

A temporary management board will oversee the day-to-day running of the club until a new executive board is appointed.

Bartomeu opted to leave rather than ask club members to vote on his future after a debate with local government in Catalonia on whether voting in person would be safe in the current pandemic.

Vote of No Confidence: Barca President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Barcelona Board of Directors Have Resigned

More than 20,000 supporters signed a petition this month for him to be removed as president after growing increasingly upset with his management of the club.

That triggered a referendum on Bartomeu’s position at the club. However, a vote is no longer necessary.

Victor Font, Joan Laporta and Jordi Roche are some of the candidates expected to run in an election to decide Bartomeu’s successor.

Bartomeu, 57, replaced Sandro Rosell as president in 2014. He had previously been vice president to Rosell, who stepped down after a lawsuit was filed accusing him of hiding the real cost of the Neymar transfer.

However, his popularity has decreased over the past five years, with problems off the pitch eventually dragging down performances on the pitch.

Last season was Barca’s first campaign without a trophy since 2007-08, and earlier this month the club announced losses for the 2019-20 season of €97 million, although it was largely a consequence of the financial strains relating to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cracks emerged between Bartomeu and the players, particularly Lionel Messi.

Leo Messi Exit and Josep Maria Bartomeu and Barcelona Board of Directors’ Resignation

Bartomeu stood firm when Messi wanted to leave Barca this past summer, with the forward accusing him of lying and then criticizing Bartomeu’s running of the club when he announced that he would stay rather than pursue legal action to force a move away from Camp Nou.

“The easiest thing after the Champions [League defeat to Bayern Munich] was to resign, but one had to take decisions amid an unprecedented global crisis,” Bartomeu said, adding that later on, in the wake of the Messi spat, he could not let the club be run by external, temporary figures.

“Who would have ensured that Messi stayed? Who would have hired a new coach?” said Bartomeu, who took over at Barcelona from Sandro Rosell in 2014.

Pique Criticism of President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Barcelona Board of Directors

Gerard Pique was also critical of Bartomeu in a recent interview. The defender said it was an “atrocity” that money had been spent by the club on a smear campaign on social media against current and former players. The scandal became known as Barcagate.

Bartomeu and the club say they were unaware of the posts, and an external audit by PricewaterhouseCoopers exonerated them, although a police investigation is ongoing.

In April, six board members resigned, citing disagreements over how the club was being run by Bartomeu.

Despite the discontent among supporters and players, Bartomeu had hoped to see out his mandate, which ran until 2021. An election had been scheduled for March, but as a result of his early departure, it will now be fast-tracked.

So, what were their achievements before President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Barcelona Board of Directors Have Resigned?

Josep Maria Bartomeu Achievements with Barcelona

Here are Bartomeu’s achievements (accomplishments) with Barcelona and Leo Messi.

  • During his time in charge, Barca won La Liga four times as well as the 2014-15 Champions League.
  • But his time in charge will largely be defined by the club’s failings in his final seasons.
  • Having struggled to find value in the transfer market since Neymar’s departure to join Paris Saint-Germain, Barca finished the 2019-20 season trophyless.
  • Their 8-2 loss to Bayern only furthered unrest, with Messi’s request to leave proving the final straw for the president.

Could we see Pep Guardiola back at Barcelona with Messi? Anyway, Pep also has his own champions league failures with ManCity — but he doesn’t want to give up.

Jude Bellingham the best player in the world right now?

Published

on

Right now yes because of the impact he has at both Real Madrid and the national team. What I like about him is that he knows there is always room to improve and I’m sure he’s gonna get even better. He’s only 20 years old. He’s learning from another two masters such as Modric and Kroos. If he continues like this the amount that Madrid had to pay for him will be consider a bargain.

No matter how many times it’s brought up, it still boggles that mind that Jude Bellingham is only 20. The latest chapter in the generational talent’s likely-to-be legendary career was dominating a 3-1 victory for England over Italy at Wembley Stadium. Bellingham was sublime throughout, with the result booking the Three Lions’ place at Euro 2024.

Why Jadon Sancho is refusing to apologise to ten Hag

If you actually watch the man (not a boy) and appreciate what he is doing it is great but it’s just the start. There’s always someone who stands out in a team. Jude exudes confidence and has a very level head. Without injuries he may end up being one of the most decorated English players ever. It’s just a shame that Real Madrid got him rather than Liverpool. Haha!

Sancho Pushes Man Utd to Sign Jude Bellingham in Summer

Yeah right now, hes the best player in the world. A 20 year old playing like a 30 year old vet. Creates chances, scores goals, team player, passes well, great awareness, ball skills are on point.. everything.

Toni Kroos mocks Eden Hazard after Jude Bellingham Deal

At the moment Mbappe is the best and if he moves to Real Madrid you will see him establish that no.1 position for, at least, the next few years. I also think Mbappe will take centre stage at Madrid which always helps at these sorts of clubs when it comes to the ballon d’or. Jude’s time will come but not just yet.

Arguments for Guirassy at Stuttgart and Sané at Bayern being the only players more in form than Bellingham at the moment. As for best in world, it is still hard to look past Mbappé.

Jude Bellingham Unveiled As New Real Madrid Player

That’s what English pundits and media like to do. Hype their players who are in form as if they are the next Messi or Ronaldo. No doubt Jude has immense talent, and potential to be an all-time great, but how many young players were called that. He probably is in the best form, but not even 1/3 of the season is over and he is the best player already? Come on. What has he won, Halaand won a treble, Mbappe won a World Cup and was in the last final.

Eden Hazard and Philippe Coutinho Are the Biggest La Liga Flops of the Season

Eden will surely be missed, It was pure pleasure delight to have been a fan All the best to him and family henceforth Love u Hazard.
Sad, his career essentially finished after the 2018-19 season, he was an incredible player at his best such a pity he didn’t have a long time at the top and such a pity he didn’t try to revive his career in the last couple of years.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid 2-0 Champions League Semifinal 2nd Leg 2021

I really enjoyed seeing his dazzling skills, especially when he was at Chelsea. I had looked forward to seeing him do the same at Real Madrid, but unfortunately the number and type of injuries that he suffered, really affected him from showing his potential in La Liga.
I’m very sad to see him

Lucky enough to see him play live. One of the most talented footballers to have ever played the game. I’ll never forget the game when Chelsea trashed Everton and the 1-2’s with Pedro for him to score the 4th goal of the match.

At his peak one of the very best about, and he’s right up there alongside Rooney and Fabregas as one of the best 16-17 year old players I’ve ever seen play the game at full professional level.
